DescriptionTwo gouache sketches depicting a man and woman wearing costume dated 1680 and 1945. The man wears an elaborate brown wig, white cravat, pale green decorated coat which is open down the front to reveal a decorated yellow waistcoat. His breeches are blue and end at the knee with blue tassels. His red shoes have large white ribbons and he holds his large brimmed hat in his right hand and a walking cane in his left. The woman is wearing a riding outfit of a small brown hat, checked green and brown jacket and pale brown jodhpurs and boots. In her left hand she holds a brown crop. Handwritten beside the man is 'Coat should be straight', with below the figure 'Effeminate type of dress /1680'. Below the woman's figure is noted 'A Masculine type of dress worn by a woman 1945'.
