DescriptionSolid 6 inch clay tile moulded with raised design and hand-painted in mainly blue and yellow lustre glazes. The design is known as 'Raised Lion', which is heraldic and has background field that is dvided into four squares alternately coloured blue and cane with red line dividing them. The top 2 squares have raised motif of lion passant facing right in buff and lustre. The lower 2 squares have raised motif of lioness passant in buff and silver lustre, facing to left. Designed by William De Morgan. Impressed backstamp of circle for Fulham Sands End Pottery, consisting of central rosette motif around which is wording 'Sands End Pottery Fulham Wm De Morgan' (used from 1888 onwards)
