TitleThe Mill Stream c.1814
-
DescriptionThis painting shows Willy Lott’s House from Flatford Mill. In the foreground the agitated water emerges from the mill race which drives the smaller of the two wheels. To the left is the ferry boat which connected the Suffolk bank with the spur of land shown on the right of the painting. The painting was engraved in mezzotint by David Lucas for English Landscape Scenery, 1831 with the title ‘Mill Stream’. Conservation work in 2014 uncovered a little kingfisher above the water with Constable's distinctive flash of red paint. Purchased with support from the Art Fund and Felix Cobbold Bequest.
