DescriptionThis is presumably the last state before the letters. A new subject, based on the painting Constable was working at the time of his death. The painting was exhibited after his death at the Royal Academy in 1837. The subject was chosen by Lucas and C.R. Leslie. Although proofs of 1845 and 1846 exist, no lettered state appears to have been issued before Bohn's publication in 1855. Original: oil painting in Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, Ohio (gift of Edmund Drummond Libbey). Given by Mrs A.M.Amschel, 1950.
