DescriptionSigned bottom left 'JC Woodbridge August 3rd 1815 morn' and top right 'J. Constable'. The drawing was probably made during Constable's return from painting in Brightwell. The drawing is on a trimmed page of the sketch-book used in Suffolk in 1815. For some time this drawing was recorded as 1816 but Constable was returning to London on 3rd August 1816 so it is unlikely he was in Woodbridge and the drawing must therefore have been completed on his visit to that area in August 1815. It was owned by Edward Fitzgerald and presented to the collection by his niece in 1960.
