DescriptionOval shield and wooden stick, both decorated with brown and white fur/skin. Nguni cattle are very important in Zulu life and their skins were used to make shields like this one. Two long strips of leather are woven in and out of the slits down the middle of the shield, adding thickness and strength. The handle of the shield is made from long rod passed down the back through lacing strips. Handle projects beyond shield at top and decorated with strip of wild cat fur.
