DescriptionBarkcloth (kapa) Kua'ula sample. Large rectangular sheet of white cloth, with corner cut out and missing. In manufacture it has been given a ribbed appearance. The method involved laying the cloth over a grooved anvil and rubbing it with a special skate-shaped wooden instrument so that the part of the cloth was forced into the underlying groove. They were made by men not women and were in great demand for loincloths and wraparound skirts (koojiman 1972, p117). Registration number on stuck-on label.
