This illuminated manuscript was made in 1462 at the Benedictine monastery of St Justine at Padua, Italy.80 folios of vellum, large size, with musical notation. Decorated with seven miniatures by an Italian artist of considerable merit. Contemporary binding of thick oak boards, covered with stamped leather, bound all around with brass work with massive brass corner pieces, two of which represent St Mark and St LukeThis object is part of the West African Gold group as it dates to the period and contains gold leaf. A large amount of European gold from this period came from West Africa.
