bonnet, bonnet

Poke bonnet, cream grosgrain silk over a whalebone frame with a sheer silk brim. With a pink/grey wide ruched ribbon band that goes under the chin and fastens on the right side in a big bow. Curtain at back is called a Bavolet. Form is created with whalebone. 1840s. Gold silk satin lining at back of bonnet, sides are lined with coffee-coloured silk.
