Summer mantle of white cotton with a border of thin cotton tape tacked by hand into a floral design. Trimmed all around with a frill. Constructed from a square of fabric - one corner has been cut off and re-attached to create a second layer over the shoulders. This seam is a drawstring that fastens at the front with ties - this shapes it over the shoulders. Circa 1870.
