Lady's straw hat covered in white silk. Flat crown with white silk bow and silk net decoration. Two ribbons under chin. Mid to late 18th century. Mid to late 18th century. Wood chip straw hat, stitched together edge to edge. Some evidence that the top surface of the woodchip is covered with paper under the silk, this would be to stiffen. Lined with cream silk that has stripes in the weave. Covered with plain cream silk. Ribbon ties have been reattached but are original and in poor condition. Top decorated with machine made silk(?) net of two types. One type decorated with woven dots and the other type is decorated with woven flowers and bows. Net edged with wire and silk lace trim. White silk ribbon with bows on the side.
