This medieval silver brooch is decorated with gilded roses and was discovered in Great Bromley, Essex. The Latin inscription reads IHS EST AMOR CORDIS MEI, which translates as ‘Jesus is the love of my heart'. When it was made, it was common for people to express their faith through religious jewellery.
