flagon, jug

A Roman copper-alloy flagon with trefoil spout. The majority of the body of the vessel is missing, but the shoulder, neck, spout and handle are intact. The handle is a tall, elongated, decorated strap, which reaches up considerably higher than the top of the spout. The flagon comes from a high status grave, known as the Stanway 'Warrior's Grave', which likely belonged to a very high status Briton in the late Iron Age or early Roman period.
