jug, toby jug

Pearlware Toby jug with impressed the maker's mark on a raised scroll on the base for John Walton, Burslem, Staffordshire. The Toby jug depicts a seated man holding in his left hand a blue and white jug filled to the brim with beer. He wears a dark red coat, yellow knee breeches, patterned waistcoat and a black tricorn hat. His complexion is florid with six warts on his face and several missing teeth.
