Ceremonial axe (sio) made of a circular dark nephrite blade fixed onto a wooded handle, which is wrapped with coarse barkcloth and plaited coconut fibre and vegetable fibre cord. The blade is fixed at the top with various fibres and red trade cloth. Stuck-on handwritten label on blade: 'Nephrite Collection Reboux' and written underneath in pencil '79.95 New Caledonia'. From the Sir E. Ray Lankester collection, previously Dr Reboux.
