Weymouth Bay, Osmington, October 1816

This drawing is on a page from a larger sketchbook that Constable used in 1816. Constable had married Maria Bicknell on 2nd October 1816 and they were on their honeymoon. On 11th October they journeyed west to the vicarage at Osmington to visit their good friends Rev. John Fisher and his wife. The unsigned drawing depicts a view inland of Weymouth Bay, Osmington looking over fields to the sea. Inscribed 'Weymouth Bay, Osmington 22nd Oct 1816 morn. JF married July 2 1816'. On the reverse is the drawing of Weymouth Bay, IPSMG: R.1940-26.6.
