Necklace made of a cowrie shell pendant, strung onto a synthetic chain of white shells or seeds at intervals, each one surrounded by a ring of black seeds. The chain is strung with red, yellow, green, white and blue glass beads. With the necklace, a Museum typewritten label: 'Necklace of shells brought in New Zealand by the donor. Said to be Maori'. Not a typical Maori necklace. Donated by Mrs L. P. Ryan
